How we became Eyes of AI
It struck Sen that dental practitioners needed a tool to better communicate these types of diagnoses with patients and that Khoa, with his expertise in AI, data and computer science, could assist him in building it.
“Our first goal was to develop a tool for advanced cephalometric analysis, which is essentially the analysis of the dental and skeletal relationships of the human skull and something frequently used by dentists, orthodontists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons to help diagnose patients and plan their treatment,” said Dr. Sen.
“Cephalometric analysis takes 20-30 minutes manually, but with Khoa’s expertise we were able to get it down to seven seconds and alleviate common misdiagnoses.
”From here, EAI began collaborating with Data61, CSIRO’s data and digital arm, on its flagship AI-driven cloud-based technology to detect dental and jaw diseases and landmarks, as well as measurement features to quantify the size, distances and densities in and between pathological and non-pathological markers.
This suite of technology is a world first and will save dentists an immense amount of time which is then passed on to patients in more affordable healthcare.
