Sydney-based Eyes of AI (EAI), which has built one of the world’s most advanced AI-driven radiological software programs, has today announced a collaboration with UK-based diagnostic scanning company Medical Imaging Partnership (MIP) and Prime Health Diagnostics.
The collaboration will see EAI and MIP partner for a three-stage project with the aim to introduce automated pathology detection software and automated radiology report generation within the ever- expanding world of maxillofacial imaging.
EAI continues to work with Australia’s national science agency, the CSIRO, on automated detection methods for dental and jaw diseases, lesions, and pathologies in Cone Beam CT scans – one of dentistry’s most used imaging modalities. EAI and the CSIRO have been working together since mid- 2022 to develop machine-learning models that can identify normal anatomy and pathological lesions in dental radiographs.
Khoa Le, CEO of EAI said the partnership with MIP will aim to provide dental practices that use MIP’s services with a significant improvement in diagnostic speed and accuracy and ultimately an improved experience for patients.
“This automated analysis will help reduce the likelihood of misdiagnoses and missed pathologies – greatly enhancing dentist-patient relationships and patient health outcomes.”
The partnership with MIP comes at a time when there is significantly increased demand by both clinicians and patients for high-quality imaging reports with a short turnaround time, against the backdrop of a finite number of appropriately trained reporters.
An international study (Dental, 2019) that surveyed 7000 adults across the United States, Canada, China, France, Germany India and the UK, found that 95% of dental patients agree that they receive better care with enhanced digital imaging solutions. Two in three patients would consider switching to a digitally equipped and enabled dental practice.
The same survey found that most patients have come to expect more advanced technology and that clinicians' use of technology influences their patients' perceptions of them so much so that it can impact patient attraction and retention.
Steve Bird, CEO of MIP and Prime Health is excited about the new technological advancements in AI and MIP’s partnership with EAI.
This not only reduces the workload of healthcare professionals but has the potential to improve patient care.
"Our focus on automated imaging report generation is a stride towards increasing capacity for in- depth patient interactions. This ongoing research underscores our commitment to empowering clinicians with cutting-edge tools."
